2019 FSCJ Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient

Susan A. Amburgey

Confident, dynamic and enthusiastic—three words that describe Susan A. Amburgey, our 2019 FSCJ Distinguished Alumni Award recipient. She always dreamed of earning a bachelor's degree and in 2016, her dream came true. Susan's journey to success started at FSCJ.

Her pursuit of higher education began in 1980, when she graduated from high school. After becoming a wife and mother, Susan put her dream of becoming a teacher on hold. Years later, she tried to return to college, but instead took on the role of caregiver for her parents. Susan later moved to Jacksonville, Florida and researched college options. She chose FSCJ.

Susan worked various jobs in logistics while focusing on her pursuit of higher education. In 2013, she earned an Associate in Arts and in 2014, a Technical Certificate in Logistics and Transportation. When FSCJ began offering a Bachelor of Applied Science in Logistics, Susan became the first official student to be accepted into the program. After a 36-year journey, in 2016, she graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Logistics.

Susan is moving up the ranks in her logistics career and setting records. She is the first woman to be named Safety Manager at RDL Logistics. Susan was then promoted to her current role, Operations Manager and has vast experience in operations, safety, recruiting and human resources. She has also earned eight coveted Council of Supply Chain Management certifications as well as the Professional Designation in Logistics and Supply Chain Management industry certification.

Susan is committed to her work and making a difference in the community. For the past 32 years, she has volunteered her talent and time with the Miss America program and helped award more than $2 million dollars in in-kind scholarships to contestants. Additionally, Susan was recognized by the Florida Department of Education with the Commissioner's Leadership Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service.

Susan also gives her time and talent to FSCJ by serving as vice chair of the FSCJ Business programs Advisory Committee. She has been a guest speaker at FSCJ events and for logistics and supply chain management classes. Susan enjoys sharing words of advice and industry knowledge with students. Her next goal is to earn a master's degree and return to FSCJ as a professor.
